Shooting War in BK

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Shooting War is finally coming home to where it all began - beautiful Brooklyn. Please join me and my main man Sander Hicks for a lively behind-the-scenes account of the making of the book followed by some of Brooklyn’s finest underground political rappers. The beer is organic and so are the rhymes.

Happy holidays

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

Best wishes and thank you for all of your support, from everyone involved with Shooting War. We’ll see you in the new year.

In the meantime, if you’re interested there are new reviews linked to on the press page from the Los Angeles Times and Mother Jones, each exactly how I imagined they would be.

More Love from the UK

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Forbidden Planet International’s Richard Burton picks Shooting War as one of their best of 2007:

“Shooting War was the absolute revelation of the year. Coming out of nowhere, this book is a jaw-dropping portrayal of American aggression in the Middle East, a mix of political satire, war reportage and near-future science fiction. But it’s no bland treatise on the evils of US imperialism either. It’s a sharp political satire and a fast paced action adventure tale with a message as deeply embedded as the reporters involved…Even as I was writing this review I found myself reliving the book. It’s now had the third reading and is just as good, just as exciting, just as incendiary as the first time round. It’s quite simply the book of the year.”

A huge honor with a great, extensive review. Thanks.

In other UK news, I’ll be on Sky News’ Sky.com show at 7:00 PM GMT Wednesday. - Anthony

Northern Love

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

We’re getting some great coverage from our Canadian cousins. Earlier this week, I did an extensive interview with my main man Chris Cook of Victoria’s Gorilla Radio. You can listen to an archived stream here. Saturday’s Globe & Mail has a great review, calling our comic book a “a sharply observed political and media satire…[set in] a scary but believable near future.” Finally, our new best friends at the National Post kindly noted that Shooting War is “one of the best reviewed books of the year.” Thanks Canada. We’d love to come up there, so if your college or group is interested in having us, let us know. - Anthony

Shooting War in the NYT

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Thanks to everyone who came out to Jim Hanley’s Universe Wednesday. Sorry, I couldn’t make it. I got caught up in a shoot for a new high-concept show on the music video channel Fuse called “10 Great Reasons.”

One great reason to check the paper of record today is The New York Times’ publishing correspondent Motoko Rich makes note of our business model in a story on web-to-print comics. Check it out here: “Crossover Dreams: Turning Free Web Work Into Real Book Sales.” Speaking of press, if you haven’t caught the latest, check our constantly updated press page for the latest quotes from the likes of the The New York Post, yes, you read that right, Murdoch’s own money-bleeding tabloid, and our friends at Bookslut.com. - Anthony
